Best Places To See On A Friends Trip To Ladakh

Travel is one of those few things in life that is very close to my heart. It gives me an escape from the daily monotony of life and rejuvenates my senses. There is a sense of freedom in it that cannot be defined in words. And our friends trip to Ladakh was meant to be a testimony to this traveler spirit only.

Ladakh was on my mind for a long time and when finally my husband and I had time to go for it, we decided not to delay it any further. Luckily, in this amazing trip to Ladakh, we were also joined by two other wonderful companions whom we call friends!

Together, we set off on one hell of an adventure!

Sightseeing Ladakh

Note: We booked our package to Ladakh via TravelTriangle, an online marketplace that offers customized packages. I knew about them through my previous honeymoon trip (in which we had a great experience). So once again, when I contacted them for quotes and a customized trip, I wasn’t disappointed.

Day 1: Manali Trance

friends trip to himachal

We took a flight to Chandigarh from Mumbai and reached early in the morning. After freshening up for a while, we explored the Chandigarh city and quite frankly loved it! Our sightseeing in Chandigarh included Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, and Sector 17 market.

At around 9:30 pm, we left for Manali and on its way, enjoyed a delicious dinner.

Day 2: Hello Himachal

manali friends trip

At around 7 am in the morning, we finally reached Manali. We were amazed by its beauty and after checking into our hotel, relaxed for a while. Later, it was time for some sightseeing in Manali and the places that we visited today were Hadimba Temple, Mall Road, and Cafe 1947.

We later on also got ourselves clicked in traditional Himachali attire and it was truly a moment worth remembering.

Overall, our second day was spent well and was a perfect mix of spirituality, culture, and some good food.

Day 3: It’s getting really cold out here

friends on a trip to srinagar

After having a delicious breakfast, we left early in the morning for Sarchu via the Rohtang Pass, Keylong, and Baralacha Pass. The journey was extremely scenic and serene. In the night, we had a halt at Sarchu and you won’t believe how cold it got (-6 degrees). We were literally frozen to our bones but apart from this, really enjoyed the feeling (haha!).

Day 4: Leh, here we come!

Today, we woke up to a mesmerizing view and after soaking in some sunlight, proceeded for our breakfast. Soon after, we left for Leh!

The journey from Sarchu to Leh is beautiful. On our way, we crossed Nakeela and Lachung La pass and loved every minute of our travel. The roads were beautiful and the scenery, straight out of heaven.

We later also crossed Sky Angchu Thang (biggest and highest plateau on earth), Tanglang La Pass, and Indus Valley.

I was so happy at seeing these paradise like places in real life that words cannot not describe my feelings. Later, we also saw a beautiful lake on our way (name of which, I can’t remember) before finally reaching our destination – Pang. After having lunch here, we checked into our hotel and spent the remaining time relaxing.

Day 5: The desert experience

khardongla pass in ladakh

After breakfast today, our driver came to pick us up, and we soon began our journey to Hundar. I felt amazing as we were leaving for Nubra Valley via Khardungla Pass (world’s highest motorable road) and at that moment, traveling to this place truly felt like an achievement.

After reaching Nubra Valley, we explored the Hundar Valley, which was full of sand dunes and it was truly an awesome feeling exploring a desert so many feet up.

Our night stay was arranged in a tent, which was once again, a one of a kind experience!

Day 6: The magical Pangong Lake

pangong lake

Pangong Lake in Ladakh

We woke up to an amazing view of the sand dunes and later proceeded to Deskit Valley. Deskit is the main village of headquarter of Nubra Valley, which has a small market consisting of a row of shops and about 500 years old Gompa on the hilltop. Spectacular views of the valley can be seen from the monastery here and so after visiting the Deskit Monastery, we headed towards the world famous Pangong Lake.
The route to Pangong from Nubra takes the visitor past the picturesque villages of Shey and Thikse and turns off from the Indus valley by the side valley of Chemrey and Sakti.

We finally reached Pangong Lake and were mesmerized by its beauty. The blue lake was enchanting and was a sight to behold. Later, we headed to our tents and spent the evening relaxing.

Day 7: The most beautiful sunrise!

Friends on a trip to Leh

We woke to the most beautiful sunrise at Pangong Lake! It was a surreal sight and we thank our caretakers for waking us up.

Later, after having our breakfast, we left for Leh. On our way to Leh, we stopped to visit the Thiksey Monastery which I highly recommend since it was very beautiful and extremely calming to the senses.

Post this, we reached Leh and after checking into our hotel, relaxed for a while, and then went out to explore the local market of Leh. We did some shopping here and later returned to our hotel for dinner.

Day 8: More sightseeing in Ladakh

Friends trip to Leh

We visited the Kargil today and enroute, saw the famous Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the Confluence of Zanskar and Indus river.

At Kargil, we had a yummy dinner which was prepared by the hotel owner himself and then called it a night.

Day 9: Sonmarg was more beautiful than imagined!

nature of sonmarg

On our way to Srinagar today, we visited Drass, Kargil War Memorial (a must visit!), Zojila Pass, and Sonmarg.

It was an amazingly proud feeling to visit the war memorial and we felt a lot of gratitude for the Indian soldiers protecting our borders.

We also stopped Zero Point for a few hours and then proceeded to Sonmarg. Sonmarg turned out to be the jewel of our trip since it was breathtakingly beautiful. Later, after having our dinner here, we proceeded towards Srinagar, checked into our hotel, and called it a night.

Day 10: The many charms of Srinagar

kashmir shikara ride

dal lake in srinagar

We started our day with breakfast at the hotel and then headed to see the Mughal Gardens. We visited Nishat Bagh (Abode of Pleasure) built by Asif Khan, brother in law of Emperor Jehangir in 1632 AD. There was the Shalimar Bagh (Abode of love) too and it was built by Jehangir for his wife Empress Noor Jehan.

All the gardens here were situated on the banks of Dal Lake and had the Zabarwan Mountain in their background.

For lunch, we went to Ahdoos Restaurant and had the most delicious meal in the entire journey. We also did a one and a half hour Shikara ride at the Dal lake and loved every bit of it. Post this, we came back to our hotel and rested for the day.

Day 11: Saying goodbye!

This was our last day and it was time to pack our bags, take a bunch of memories, and head back to Mumbai. After our breakfast at the hotel, we headed to the airport and returned to Mumbai.

High Points:
Sarchu, Nubra, and Pangong lake were the wow moments of our trip.

Tips for future travelers:

  • Drink a lot of water when traveling to Leh and do not sleep during the daytime.
  • Always ascend to high altitude. (either take Srinagar to Leh route or Manali to Leh route)
  • Please do not exert yourself. Rest well.
  • Go with a group, it is always better to be in group in such places.
  • Carry a neck pillow, it really helps a lot.
  • Carry warm clothes as some parts are very cold.
  • If you start feeling breathless please consult a doctor immediately.
  • Have a good 8 hours sleep before a long journey

7D/6N Family Trip To Leh Ladakh: The Coolest Holiday We Have Had!

I love going places, not only because it helps me explore a different culture and meet new people, but also because it lets me discover myself. Travel is absolutely synonymous with freedom for me. Nature, adventure, and comfort are things that I embrace the most in a place, and so a family trip to Leh Ladakh had been on the top of my bucket list.

To ensure that our trip turns out to be hassle-free and experiential , I was looking for a perfect Ladakh tour plan and package and then a friend recommended TravelTriangle. She had booked her Andaman holiday in the past, and had a great experience. Ours was equally worthwhile. The package was economical, the planning was perfect, and the booking process was way too easy.

Though, we did begin with a little sightseeing around. Shanti Stupa overlooking the city, the spectacular Leh Palace, and the market were a few of the places we ticked off our itinerary.

Kick-starting our day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, all of us were full of excitement. After heading out for our city tour, we visited the Indus River on the Leh-Shrinagar Highway, and witnessed the intersection of the Indus and the Zanskar River. It was a sight worth savouring.

While driving on the enchanting hills, we also enjoyed the beautiful views of the Himalayas on the way. Our next pit stops included a visit to the Alchi Monastery – the oldest and the most famous Buddhist temple, and Gurudwara Patthar Sahib. We spent a great time here, indulging in langar and seva were undoubtedly the highlights of our visit.

The last place we explored on day two was the Hall of Fame museum, constructed and maintained by the Indian Army. There is not only a lot to learn from the place, but also a lot to witness and admire.

There’s nothing more fun or thrilling than taking a road trip from Leh to Nubra Valley. We drove via the Khardung la Pass, the highest motorable road with endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range and the Indus Valley.

On our way, we also stopped by to indulge in the staple food of Ladakh like momos, chowmein, thukpa, and more for lunch. It was no less than a treat to our taste buds. Followed by it, we checked into the Dowa Deluxe Camp, which was set up amidst lush greenery and serene ambience.

After returning from Nubra Valley to Leh, the next adventure that awaited us was the journey to Pangong Lake via the Chang La Pass, which is claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world. We stopped by for a while to visit the Thiksey Monastery, and then resumed our journey again. The thrilling drive became more beautiful when we witnessed a snowfall on our way to the lake. It’s not every day that one gets to experience such a bliss, and so we were all left in awe.

Waking up in a camp overlooking the lake was no less than a delight. We had a scrumptious breakfast with a view, and headed back to Leh after clicking a lot of pictures at a shooting point.

On our way back, we also visited the Druk White Lotus School in Shey. This eco-friendly school was surely one-of-its-kind, and something we had never seen before.

Day 7: Bidding Adieu To Leh Ladakh

Yaks in ladakh

Unfortunately, it was our last morning in Leh and it was time to come back home. But, the memories that we created and captured were a souvenir that we were too happy to bring back with us.

High Points Of Our Family Trip To Leh Ladakh

  • The breathtaking view of the Himalayas covered in snow
  • The spellbinding beauty of Leh

Tips For Future Travelers

  • Keep a check on the weather conditions before going, and pack your clothes accordingly.
  • Leh Ladakh is beautiful. Don’t forget to carry a good camera because every site is worth capturing.
  • A lot of remote areas serve only decent food, and not something that’s too fancy. So, stay prepared for that in advance and don’t let it put you off.

Even though we missed some adventures due to sudden changes in the weather, our Leh Ladakh holiday with TravelTriangle was full of extraordinary experiences. While it satiated my wanderlust, and I would love to take another trip anytime soon!

A Cruise From Mumbai To Bali Via Goa And Andaman: What More Could One Ask For!

After the Mumbai–Bangkok cruise, Nitin Gadkari, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister announced that the ministry is working on a cruise route from Mumbai to Bali via Kochi and the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Mr. Gadkari said, “Hundreds of thousands of Indians travel to Bali. They can travel from Mumbai by cruise. This will become a big tourist attraction. One lakh tourists from our country travel to Singapore by cruise. Our effort is to develop cruise tourism here.” It goes without saying that this will be an enormous boost to India’s negligible cruise tourism.

According to the plan, the Mumbai Port Trust is developing a state-of-the-art cruise terminal near Ballard Pier, which will cater to more than 7 lakh passengers annually once it’s completely ready.

Mr. Gadkari said, “Mumbai gets 80 cruise ships. We have constructed a state-of-the-art terminal for ships. Goa also gets a number of cruise vessels. We expect that in the next five years 950 cruise vessels will be calling the Goa port.”

Speaking about the government’s ambitious seaplane initiative, Mr. Gadkari said, “All rules have been formalized by Air Traffic Control authorities for seaplanes. It will be finalized this month”.

A Handy Guide To Enjoy A Virtual Intercontinent Tour Of The Ghan Australia!

Trains are nothing new and are actually the lifeline of several countries. Most of the people who have been on trains will remember the extensive journeys they have taken. What if you can take a train journey through a continent like Australia? The Ghan Australia actually makes this possible by giving you different routes that you can take. It is an extensive railway experience that takes you through the parts of Australia that no other way will. When you visit Australia, this is definitely a must do a thing if you seriously want to enjoy the place to its full potential. So, let us know a little bit more about this train.

About The Ghan

The Ghan is basically an Australian passenger train service. It takes people from Adelaide to Darwin or vice versa. In the middle, it provides a four-hour stopover at Alice Springs. It takes 54 hours to complete the whole journey which spans 2,979 KM or 1851 miles in total. You will often hear the tagline ‘The Ghan Australia’s Greatest Train Journey’ from people who have taken the journey. It started operating in 1929. In the year 1997 it was privatized and now the Great Southern Railway takes care of it. The Ghan is the shortened form of the ‘The Afghan Railways’ which was popularised by the staffs and the name remained. Like several other heritage railway journeys, this is one that people should include in their travel bucket list. The train is 774 meters long and operates on the average speed of 85 KM per hour while the maximum speed is 115 KM per hour. The number of carriages that you will find in the train is 30 which includes the passenger carriages as well as the crew quarters, restaurants, power vans and lounges. Now, the train operates on standard gauge railways which makes it smoother and faster. Darwin was added as the last point in the year 2004.

Route

As we said above the train lives either from Adelaide or Darwin and completes its destination at Adelaide or Darwin. The two stops that they offer are at Katherine and Alice Springs. This makes the route transcontinental and you actually get to see the changing terrains as you take the journey. The journey lasting 4 days and 3 nights will have you excited about the tour. These days you can also take a journey only to Alice Springs either from Darwin or from Adelaide. Check for Darwin to Alice Springs Train or some other route if you want such a train. The route is an extensive one so you will surely want to enjoy some of the destinations. The Ghan Australia provides add-on expeditions that you can take part in when you are on the train. These packages can be pre-booked from their interactive website. The train takes you through the red outback which is an important part of Australia. You should have a look at the Ghan Train Map to have a better knowledge about the route provided by them.

When you are on this train you do not need to fret about the services. They have all kinds of options that you may need in the extensive journey. First of all, they divide their facilities by Platinum and Gold Packages.

1. Platinum Service

Platinum Service

The platinum service is a private one where you either take a double bed or a twin bed cabin. You can configure it into a lounge at daytime and convert into a bed at night. It is quite comfortable and spacious. The platinum cabins are equipped with a complete bathroom including shower and vanity. The windows are big so that you can see the outside. You can also get specially prepared continental breakfast by requesting the staff. The luggage allowance is also more compared to the Gold cabins. Travelers will also have access to the Platinum Club where have extensive and special menu items to choose from. The train fare also includes food and alcoholic beverages.

2. Gold Service

Gold Service

Most people who travel on The Ghan Australia avail the Gold Service as it is quite affordable when compared to the Platinum one. In the Gold Service, you can either share the cabin with another person in the Twin Cabin or have a single cabin to yourself. One can also opt for the Gold Superior cabin which is more spacious. People who are mobility impaired can book the Gold Access Cabins which are specially designed for them. Only the Gold Single Cabin doesn’t have a toilet and they have to share it with others. The Gold Service does include all-exclusive meals at the Queen Adelaide Restaurant and also alcohols in it. They also offer bus services to selected hotels once people reach Darwin.

Along with these people also have access to normal facilities like power, water, toiletries etc. which are essential for traveling in such a train. They can consult the website to know more about these facilities so that they know about the things that they should pack.

Schedule And Price

When you are traveling in such a train you need to plan the journey ahead of time. You need to have the right idea about the cost and also its timetable. These days the Ghan does operate all year long but they do upload their timetable online so that the travelers can check and book their tickets. The Ghan Train Australia Map is beautifully displayed on their website giving all the details about the stops and also the needed information.

The average fare of the full journey for the Platinum Services will be around AUD 4199 per person in the high season and about AUD 3979 per person in the shoulder season. People availing Gold Services will need to pay about AUD 2889 for the Twin Cabin in the high season and AUD 2629 in the shoulder season. People who avail the Ghan Expedition will need to pay more for the trail along with the add-on prices for the different tours. There is also an option for buying advanced tours where the price is reduced, people should book ahead as there are limited seats available. The advance option is only for the Gold Services.

The company changes the timetable from time to time and they do update it on their website. So, check that if you are in need of the timetable of the journey.

  • We recommend the interested travelers to go through the www.greatsouthernrail.com.au to have a better idea and to collect information about their journey. This is also the website where they can book their tickets.
  • Another point that they should check is the allowance of baggage. As it is a long journey people may want to pack a lot of luggage. But the train does have some restrictions based on their services.
  • Do pack appropriate clothes for the journey as you will halt at different areas and you may need different types of clothes.
  • Drink plenty of water on this long train journey.
  • If you are traveling with your baby, then do pack their essentials.
  • While packing check the things that aren’t allowed on the train so that you do not face any problem prior to the commencement of the journey.

So, here are the things that you need to know about The Ghan. We hope that you are now excited to aboard the train. Book the tickets for the next possible journey and have a transcontinental expedition while you’re holidaying in Australia.
